Associate Professor of Political Science Marcela García-Castañon commented to the San Francisco Chronicle on ethnic divides among voters in the city.

The Chronicle’s Progressive Voter Index found that majority-Hispanic precincts, which are all in the Mission District, are relatively liberal compared to other neighborhoods. “According to García-Castañon, this is in-line with trends in Latino political opinions and behavior: Latinos are generally more environmentally progressive, fiscally progressive and occasionally, socially progressive,” the article stated.

Professor Emeritus of Political Science Richard DeLeon helped develop the Progressive Voter Index, which attempts to measure the ideology of voters based on how they voted on recent ballot measures.
